The City of Unley needed to develop a publication outlining their Youth Strategy for 2015–2017. The client wanted a vibrant, youthful design and had a very specific request: that the design took some influence from the comedy movie Napoleon Dynamite. Always up for the challenge, the design team here at Flux could see no reason the unusual request could hamper our approach. Sometimes interesting parameters can provide for an interesting process and outcome.
Our process is always driven by research and idea generation. Despite the very specific brief, this project was no different. We looked at pop youth culture and with Napoleon Dynamite as our guide, we generated birds eye view visuals of objects young people own, share and love in a cut paper style. The style influenced the cover, internal graphics and infographics.
The end result of this unique brief and process was a unique identity system and very playful publication that delighted our client.
